Redecorating can be a new and exciting experience for many homeowners. If you prefer taking matters into your own hands, be cautious of these common décor pitfalls.
1. Choosing colors at the store
Color can change the look and feel of any room in the home. Most of the time, homeowners have a sense of what they want and actually have great taste in color. However, they can still make the wrong color choice as often happens when they haven't seen the paint swatch or fabric sample in the actual setting it's going to be used in.
Different lighting conditions can completely alter how you perceive color. Before you make your final decision, take the swatches home with you and examine the color during the different times of the day.
2. Leaving clutter out in the open
Even the most stylish room takes on an umimpressive air if it is cluttered with everyday, non-decorative items.
Stow away knick knacks and various personal items to keep your home looking neat and tidy. If you don’t have enough storage in your current room setup, maybe it’s time to add some storage. Large amounts of small display items and collectibles may read as clutter. Avoid falling into this decorating trap.
3. Buying wrong furniture
Perhaps one of the most frustrating home decorating pitfalls, buying wrong furniture types or sizes can potentially affect your lifestyle and how you go about your daily activities in your home. Make sure seat heights are in proportion to your tabletop heights, because having tabletops that are too low or too high can be uncomfortable.
Measure your existing space before you go shopping for furniture. Don’t just buy on impulse and worry about measurements later on. This can lead to disastrous results.
