As a home seller that's currently living in the home you're selling, it may be inevitable that you have to show your house to potential buyers while you’re still living in it. Most likely, you won’t have the luxury of time or convenience to take on any repairs and minor facelifts such as repainting. Here'show to get your home ready for potential buyers...
1. Clear the clutter
Clear out the clutter in your home. Stow away non-decorative items such as remote controls, toiletries and any paperwork in the home office. These everyday items are usually kept on tables and counters, within easy reach, however, for home buyers, this may translate as clutter and distract from your beautiful home interiors and quality of space.
2. Get rid of unpleasant smells
Aside from the visual aspect, consider the smell of your house too. Make sure your home smells clean or at least get rid of bad odors. Open your windows to air out musty smells left over from cooking. If you have pets at home, this may contribute to odors as well. It may be difficult to detect any odors since you’ve already gotten used to them so consult a friend or relative on this one for an unbiased smell test. Adding fresh flowers in your home on the day can also leave a pleasant scent.
3. Tuck away personal items
Tuck away any personal items. Family photos and personalized items can create a cozy and homey feel for you, however, when it comes to the potential buyer, they need to see the home as a clean slate so they can better imagine their home life and lifestyle in your property.
4. Show off those features
Take advantage of some existing accent features in your home. If you have a water fountain, keep it running while you’re showing the house to potential home buyers. Clean out aquariums and trim your garden landscape. These small details will make your home look well-kept and charming.
