4 Ways to Save Water at Home

Conserving water is a crucial factor in green living. Simple measures integrated into your home living can add up to benefit you and the environment in great big leaps. Save money on your utilities bill and minimize your environmental footprint with the following water-saving tips and techniques.

Install efficient plumbing
Check, repair, or update your plumbing. Examine faucets, toilets, and showers in your home for leaks. Efficiency and good condition are key. Even a small leak, if left unattended, can be excessive in terms of waste and monthly cost. Opt to invest in modern, water-saving faucets and showerheads.

Check your water meter
Here's a smart and simple technique to determine whether your plumbing has any leaks. Firstly, take note of the reading on your water meter. Then, keep from using any running water in your home for a two-hour period. Afterwards, check the water meter again. If the reading had changed, your home most likely has a leak somewhere in its pipes.

Use less water
Conservation is a discipline: it's a practice in prudent living. Take measures to cut down and become more efficient in water usage among your daily activities, like showering, washing the dishes, or doing the laundry. Shut off the faucet or shower when not in use. Do one full load of laundry instead of attending to it in smaller batches. Shower only as long as needed. Use the dishwasher only occasionally.

Make use of rain & recycled water
Set out pails or basins outdoors to catch rainwater with. Use this rainwater for your laundry, washing the car, or watering your lawn and garden. Additionally, you can also use runoff from the shower, or water from the laundry, for washing the car or flushing the toilet.
