As the first room of the house, the foyer sets the tone and mood of your home. Give a good first impression by considering these ideas for designing your foyer.
1. Color statement
Color choice is important in the foyer. Since it’s a small space where people don’t really stay for long periods, it can be a great opportunity to use bold color. This is ideal for small foyers composed of just one console table flushed against the wall. Your accent wall can become the perfect backdrop for your foyer arrangement.
2. Using pattern
Another way to make your foyer design interesting is by using pattern on the walls. Great for small foyers located in hallways, patterned walls make a distinct style statement. For a more daring look, extend the pattern to the ceiling. Wallpaper is a good material choice for this look, but you may also have a patterned mural done for a customized look. Go for large-scale patterns and light colors to keep the room from looking too busy and cluttered.
3. Decorative moldings
For a subtler way of updating your foyer style, use decorative molding and trimming - this creates an architectural interest. You may also paint the moldings with a color that is contrasting to the wall to make the look more graphic and modern.
4. Central art piece
Introduce your taste in art by hanging a huge painting as your focal point. If you’re too shy to use bold color, using a big piece of art can be a way of incorporating color without committing to an entire wall of hues.
5. Beautiful wall arrangement
Instead of one large painting, you may also use smaller wall art pieces. Create a tight composition with framed art in different sizes and shapes. You may even add unexpected pieces such as a small birdhouse or wooden letters. A beautiful wall arrangement of smaller items creates a homey vibe. - Aislinn Kee
