The right kind of lighting and lighting fixtures can make a space look and feel more luxurious. Light up your space in a new way. Get tips...
1. Dramatic scale
For a cozy feel, try using a large drum shade pendant which can be hung low over a table. This works particularly well for dining rooms, as the lower height directs the conversation around the table. The large scale also lends drama to the space.
Here's a great design tip: round dining tables work beautifully with just one pendant light, whereas a rectangular table does wonders with a row of identical drum shade pendant lights.
2. Light and airy
Creating a fresh and airy atmosphere requires see-through and translucent fixtures. Great for small rooms, transparent fixtures don’t have much visual weight. Bubble design chandeliers and other glass fixtures are refreshing picks.
Combine three or more pendant lights to form an alluring 'light show'. Put them close together or hang them at different heights to create an interesting scene.
An odd number of lights generally looks better than an even number. Make sure the style and material of the different lights complement each other.
4. Up and down
Wall sconces are a great way to jazz up plain walls. For a spectacular but stylish 'performance', choose uplights and downlights.
Subtle lighting that bounces off against the walls is a great addition to any modern home.
5. Cove lighting
For several years now, cove lighting has reigned supreme where interior lighting design is concerned. From commercial properties to residential houses, cove lighting is widely used. However, aside from the usual use in the ceiling, consider using this form of lighting in other areas too. Cove lighting works beautifully behind the vanity mirror, for bookshelves, display cases and lighting up accent pieces.
