6 office organizing tips

Effective organization in the office can lead to better efficiency and productivity in work output. Whether you’re a freelancer working from home or an employee with an office, an organized working environment can do wonders.

File cabinets don’t necessarily have to look plain and boring either. Choose one with a vibrant color to liven up your office space.

Here are smart storage options and organizing ideas for your office:

File cabinet

While businesses have now taken to email correspondence and digital files, most offices are not entirely paperless. Carve out proper storage for these files in your office with a file cabinet. Opt for lateral file cabinets, as these are generally more stable than vertical ones.

To prevent the file cabinet from toppling over when the drawers are open and full, make sure the file cabinet is counterweighted. File cabinets don’t necessarily have to look plain and boring either. Choose one with a vibrant color to liven up your office space.

Storage bins and baskets

Offices need storage for extra office supplies such as paper, pens and the like. These supplies come in different shapes and sizes and may clutter your office. Use uniform storage bins or baskets to keep these essentials out of sight. Storage bins in bright colors can spice up your office, while baskets can add texture to your space.

Organizing trays

Put an organizing tray on your desk to segregate files and documents effectively. Two-tiered organizing trays may have a designated “inbox and outbox”. This will keep your desktop space clutter-free at all times.

Cord organizer

Computers and other electronic devices all have wires and cords. Tangled wires can make an office space look messy.

Use a cord organizer to set wires and cords in place. If you have a wall or divider by your desk, you may want to position your computer by the wall to hide wires.

Bulletin board

Keep your schedule and agendas within sight with a strategically located bulletin board. If you are in a creative line of work, you may also want to put up an inspiration board to encourage creativity.

Other implements

Don’t forget other common tabletop organizers as well. Choose a stylish cup for pens, a holder for paper clips and a trusty tape dispenser. There are also chic options for wastepaper baskets.
