Decorating your daughter’s bedroom can be a fun bonding project for you and your child. Having her own personal space is priceless. Giving your kid a room to clean and organize by herself can also teach her responsibility. Here are some decorating tips...
Color and pattern
The easiest ways to lend youthful character to a bedroom is through color and pattern. Choose a bright color palette such as yellow, spring green or pink. Involve your child in the selection process to keep it fun. The bright hue can dominate the entire room or, for a subtler take, choose one accent wall to work with. In lieu of a bright color, you could use patterned wallpaper with a fun girly motif such as floral or animal designs. Pattern may also be added through bedding and throw pillow covers.
Theme and personality
When decorating a kid’s bedroom, fun themes can be applied to liven up the space. A favorite cartoon character or a youthful carnival or princess motif is a great option to explore. Try incorporating your child’s personality in the room. Include favorite colors or activities in the design of the room. A large dollhouse can be a designated play area as well as a design feature.
Timeless, with room to grow
Remodeling rooms can be expensive, so it’s practical to choose timeless pieces that are flexible and can grow with your child’s needs and preferences. Choose furniture pieces that are durable and classic in design. A standard-sized bed, built-in closets and a desk are best kept neutral. Design interest can be added with more temporary pieces such as accessories, bedding and wall decals.
