DIY Round-up: Backyard Projects for Kids

Give your kids something to play with other than videogames. Try your hand at these backyard projects you can build for cheap:

A kiddie slide, a blue tarp, and a sprinkler. It's the perfect treat for summer.

Follow this tutorial to give your kids a cool HQ out in the yard. You'll need to plant some beans around a bare teepee of wooden poles and grow it to full coverage, but the final product is worth the wait.

Encourage your kids to get active with a bout or two of kickball or croquet in the yard. To make things more interesting, use pool noodles as colorful mini archways. Simply cut the pool noodles into two and use garden stakes to keep them planted in the ground.

These "hula hoop hideouts" are perfect as a reading nook or a small picnic area. You need only gather some rope, a hula hoop, some sheets or blankets, throw pillows, and ribbons for decoration. Follow this tutorial.

Using some sand and cement, black oxide powder, and a handful of upcycled materials, follow this tutorial to build your kid a cool racetrack for toy cars on the lawn.

Build your kids an obstacle course with old tires, big cardboard boxes, and rope. Take a look at this example for some inspiration. Perfect for birthday parties and family reunions with your nieces and nephews.
