Kids these days are smarter thanks to digital technology. However, this same technology risks a disconnect to the simpler pleasures in life -- enjoying the outdoors, for instance.
Instead of raising children glued to iPads and their video games, encourage them instead to appreciate nature with easy and fun projects that you can bond over in your garden.
Planting monggo seeds
The monggo plant is among the easiest to grow and take care of. Have your kids place a couple of monggo seeds in a jar filled with water for overnight observation and watch as they delight in the sprouts the next day. Assist them in replanting once the sprouts have grown bigger.
Paint like Picasso
Under your careful supervision, let your kids and their imagination run wild with a mural-painting session. Set aside a segment of the garden wall as their canvas. Be sure to provide non-toxic paint. You can opt for removable or washable chalk paint and get your kids to have at it again as a weekly activity.
Redecorate like crazy
Have your kids redecorate flower pots with fun designs using stickers or paint. Get them to customize the watering can to boot. It’s a sure way to motivate them to look after the plants and water them everyday.
Learn and have fun
Get your kids to make their own fun and colorful labels for each specie of growing green things in your garden. It’s a means to teach them the different types of flowers, plants, and trees. You can also take a few flowers and leaves from your garden and get your kids glue them to their very own drawings or paintings.
