With the right setup, you can create an entirely new ‘outdoor room’ for relaxing or as a venue for entertaining guests. Here’s how…
The front yard
If you're lucky enough to have a built-in porch/sitting area at the front of your house, you're already on your way to creating that outdoor room. Some fun patterned fabrics on light furniture can brighten up the area, as well as mirrors to help bounce light around the space.
If you're near a noisy road, you might want to think about hanging curtains. A curtain will help with controlling light and muffling noise from the outside.
If you're looking to relax on your front porch, see if you have a sturdy enough area where you can hang a hammock for relaxing afternoon naps. Alternatively, you can set out rocking chairs for those lazy Sunday afternoons.
The backyard is often more spacious than the front yard, which opens it up to many more possibilities in terms of decoration.
If you have kids, a playground set is a great idea. It gets your kids outside, giving them fresh air and exercise. Because many playground sets are small, there may still be a lot of space left over for an entertainment area.
A barbecue pit is a fantastic addition to the backyard. Furnished backyard patios are also ideal for outdoor entertaining.
