With Christmas season just right around the corner, it is time again for decorating your home with holiday cheer. Holiday décor isn’t just for the inside of your home, but for the outdoors as well.
Get your home into the festive spirit with these holiday décor tips for your home exteriors.
During Christmas season, the nights are longer and darker than they usually are. Take advantage of this by installing some bright Christmas lights. Follow your house’s architecture, and hang them along window edges, roof edges and balcony railings. You can also show off the awesome landscaping on your front yard by putting lights on the trees and bushes. If you have a tall tree, you may also hang some strands vertically along the branches. A distinctly Filipino Christmas lighting decoration is the parol, which never goes out of style. Hang it on a second-floor window for some height.
You may also incorporate some Christmas outdoor statues in your garden. Be sure to choose ones with weather resistant materials, such as fiberglass and resin stone mix. Pick out holiday-themed décor such as Santa, snowmen, reindeer and nutcrackers. Another favorite among Filipinos is the nativity scene, complete with baby Jesus, Mother Mary and Saint Joseph. For a more extensive display, you may also include the three wise men and some livestock.
Another important area in any home exterior is the main door. To evoke a festive spirit at your house’s main entryway, dress it up with a Christmas wreath. If you have big double-doors as your main door, you may even opt to put up two Christmas wreaths. Choose one with some festive reds and green for a true Christmas vibe. You can also add Christmas balls, glittered ornaments and Christmas lights to make it more interesting. If you want to go a step further, change up your welcome mat to a holiday-inspired mat as well. - Aislinn Kee
