How to create an organised and cosy bathroom

Chilling in the tub with your favorite magazine or an interesting novel is one of the few luxuries that most of us can afford in these economic times. It is therefore important to keep your bathroom as organised and as comfortable as possible. And no matter how overwhelming your day has been, with an organised bathroom, you can relax knowing you have something to look forward to when you get home.

The best way to store towels is to separate yours from the ones reserved for guests.

Here are are tips on how to organize your bathroom:

1. Be yourself

First establish what you need as an individual or a family, and then take it from there.

The next step is to consider the size of your bathroom. Even with a small bathroom, you can still have an incredible bathroom experience, so don’t let size discourage you.

2. Organize your towels

There are common essentials that can be found in every bathroom, and towels are one of them.

The best way to store towels is to separate yours from the ones reserved for guests.

If you have a little bathroom cupboard, then put the ones you use in front for easy access and the ones for guests at the back.

The other way to manage your towels is to have a different color for guests, that way even if space is limited and they get mixed up, you can easily differentiate the towels.

Keep things like bubble bath, bath oils and liquid soap in the front row while bath salts can take the back row because you don’t need to use them every day.

The best way to store towels is to fold them into thirds or roll the smaller sized towels to save space or for decorative purposes.

3. Organizing surplus bathroom products

Many homeowners tend to buy in bulk to save money. As such, they need to dedicate enough storage space for all their bathroom goods.

If this is how you run your household, make sure that you have a shelf or cupboards installed, and arrange your products in rows.

If you have three or more products of the same thing, arrange them one behind the other, and not side by side. This way, you won’t have the same products in the front or forget about other bathroom products that have been pushed to the back.

4. Manage your beauty products

Keep things like bubble bath, bath oils and liquid soap in the front row while bath salts can take the back row because you don’t need to use them every day. The same applies for hair products - oil treatment is not something you apply regularly so it’s best to keep it in the back row and bring your shampoo to the front.

Keep dental products in plastic tumblers with different colors. This can save you a lot of money as they are affordable. Make sure that each tumbler has its own toothbrush and toothpaste.

Each member of the family can choose their own tumbler in their favorite color. The tumblers are an easy way of adding color and life to a plain bathroom. They’re also fun space savers.

Just be sure to leave a reasonable amount of space between your tumblers so that the toothbrushes do not touch each other for hygienic purposes.

5. Manage cleaning agents

When it comes to managing cleaning agents, avoid storing them in the same place as your beauty products.

Also, as you organize your cleaning products, keep little children in mind. You want to keep the cleaning products close at hand, but out of your little one’s reach.

The other big no-no is lining up your cleaning detergents on the windowsill. Not only do they shield the light from coming through, but this also makes your bathroom look untidy and depressing. Remember that people walking past your bathroom window notice how unattractive this is.

6. Mind the temperature

It is important to consider temperature changes in the bathroom. Therefore, it is wise to ensure that the windows are always open. That way, you can prevent mold and mildew from developing in your bathroom. This also helps prevent towel discoloration and funny smells.

Just to be on the safe side, make time to wash and dry your towels (even the ones you do not use) outdoors.

Add sentimental items like photos and memorabilia into your bathroom to personalize your space.

Take note of body and beauty product labels as some have strict instructions like ‘should be kept in a dry cool place’. If that’s the case with the products you use, then make sure that they are kept in a place where they won't be exposed to direct steam from the shower or hot water tap.

7. Personalize your bathroom

Incorporate sentimental items into your bathroom to help you relax.

Why not put up a picture of a memory you hold dear in the bathroom? Maybe a picture of your family on holiday? Every time you’re feeling low, just glance at it and realize how much you have to be grateful for.

You could also opt for a bottle of beach sand or sea shells to give your bathroom a personal touch.
