Keeping your home organized is important – it may be clean, but if it's going to be efficient, it needs to be organized. There are many ways to keep things in order. Get tips…
1. Frequency of use and ease of access
This may seem obvious, but the things you use often should be easy to access. Much like the plates and cups in your kitchen cabinets, items that see regular use should be at eye-level and easily within reach. Heavier items that are used often like pots and pans should be below waist level to prevent accidents.
2. Like with like
Do group items according to the area of the house in which they're used. You shouldn't have to go far to get bathroom supplies like soap and shampoo. Items that serve multiple purposes should be stored in a location that's easily accessed by people who might need them. This rule can even carry over to the kitchen: keep utensils together, dry foodstuffs together and keep herbs and spices together. It's easy to remember where things are if you know where similar household items are kept.
3. Utilize and create storage systems
Home storage systems like filing cabinets are perfect for keeping paperwork together so you know where all your documents are. Even your clothes can follow a system, with all your fresh laundry going in one specific basket, all dirty laundry in another and clean clothes hanging in the closet.
4. A place for everything
This may be something your mother told you when you were a child, but there's a place for everything. If you moved something from where it's usually stored, be sure to put it back where you found it. By being conscientious about this habit, you can save yourself a lot of grief – nothing's lost if you know where it belongs.
