It's difficult enough to choose the right color for a room, so choosing a palette for your entire home is certainly a challenge. Here are a few tips to help make things a little easier…
When starting out, take your color choices into the biggest and most central room of your home. Typically, this will be the living room or kitchen. See what rooms are visible from your central room, and pick a couple of color combinations you like. You can go with a single color in different shades, complementary colors, high-contrast choices or analogous colors, which include your main color choice and its neighbors on the color wheel.
Décor and furniture
Think of your décor and furniture - you don't want your color scheme clashing with your pieces. Choosing a color scheme that fits in with your furniture is cheaper than picking new furniture to match the color.
Energy and feeling
Another thing to take into consideration is the kind of energy you want in your home. When looking at a color, make sure it makes you happy. While it may be easy to overthink this step, trust your gut when it comes to selecting the main color.
Color is naturally reflected and deflected by light, which means specific hues can be more prominent depending on the way the room is lit. To get a true sense of a color in a room, survey your space during the day.
