With little ones running around the home, touching and tasting everything within their reach, for mothers like us, it is imperative that we keep our children safe from the typical toxins.
We can clean the house from top to bottom, but we can never be too sure if these chemicals are safe.
Helping calm the anxieties of the typical housemaker, we share with you a recipe for an all-purpose, organic cleaner. This not only cleans up dirt and removes germs, but it’s safe for you and baby. You can use this to clean stubborn stains on kitchen counters, sinks, stoves, tables and even toilets.
Here’s an easy recipe you can whip up at home.
What you’ll need:
Citrus peels – you can use lemon, grapefruit and orange peels
Step by step
1. Cut the orange the peels into slices and rub a tablespoon of salt over the peels before letting them sit in the jar for an hour. This will help extract the oils for a stronger scented solution.
2. Fill the rest of the bottle with half vinegar and half water.
3. Let this solution sit, covered and sealed, for about 3 weeks. The longer it sits, the better the solution. Tip: Make a big batch to fill around 4 to 5 bottles and while they sit for the month, you can use them as decoration on the tabletop.
4. After the 3 weeks, strain the solution into the spritz bottle. You may add essential oils if you’d like. Label the bottle accordingly so that your kids will know what it is.
Use this for every surface of your home without worrying about breathing in toxic fumes. Spritz this onto a towel to clean your children’s toys as well. If the vinegar is too strong, rinse the toys in water.
Tip: For more stubborn stains and dirt, spritz over the area and let it soak for a few minutes before scrubbing.
