Megaworld's upcoming township Mactan Newtown is poised to receive more office spaces by 2018.
The industry heavyweight is set to expand their office portfolio by 150,000 square meters, according to first vice president Jericho P. Go.
"This will happen in the next three to five years and we expect to generate 40,000 full-time BPO (business process outsourcing) employees by 2018," said Go.
"Currently you have 90,000 employees now working in outsourcing companies in Cebu City. If you do the math, you can safely say that 20,000 of that are staying in Mactan. That’s a huge manpower base that companies locating here could tap. We see a lot of potential," stated Go in a press conference.
The Mactan Newtown is Megaworld's first township in Cebu as well as its first major mixed-use community outside of Metro Manila. The beach-side estate, at 30 hectares, will feature luxury residential condominiums, modern business hubs, and upscale leisure centers.
Pegged to be a major player in the IT-BPO industry, the township is home to One World Center, a five-story building with over 6,000 sqm of office space, and the Manulife Tower, which has 7,000 sqm of office space. Two BPO companies -- Results Manila and Enfra USA -- are already set to take root in the business centers. Meanwhile, three of the township’s residential projects have been launched: 8 Newtown Boulevard, One Pacific Residence, and One Manchester Place.
