Moving house could be an arduous process. Sorting through and packing up belongings for the move entails preparation, foresight, and planning. Follow the steps below to keep your items organized and packed for optimum efficiency.
A new home; a new beginning. Take this as a chance to declutter. The less items you have, the less you'll have to pack and move. Rid yourself of old clothes or furniture that have no use at your new place. Donate them to charity, hold a yard sale, or auction off your items online.
Make use of baskets, suitcases, bags, and other suitable containers so as to minimize the amount of boxes and other packaging that you'll need. Prepare sturdy containers for fragile items. Make use of bubble wrap or, better yet, crumpled newspaper as padding. Mark their containers as “fragile.” Use a portable safe or other secure container for valuables like jewelry, but don’t label them as such.
Set aside the essentials
Set aside items that you’ll need till you move out and once you move in. Prepare a set of clothes, footwear, toiletries, electronic devices like your laptop or tablet, important documents, and a carry-on or a suitcase to store them in. Start packing everything else.
Pack items by room
Pack and label your belongings by room (ie. the TV and coffee table under “Living Room”; the cooking appliances and dish towels under “Kitchen”). It would prove easier to unpack and reorganize at your new place given this system. Start packing seldom-used items first.
Load the truck
Save the essentials for last. Place them on an easily accessible spot in the moving truck so you could take them out without fuss once you’ve arrived at your new home.
