Relocating to a new home requires a lot of time and effort, especially if you’re moving into a smaller house. The mere thought of organizing and packing all your furniture and belongings into boxes may already be overwhelming for some but don't let that get to you. Avoid the hassles and frustrations of moving house with these clever tips...
Assess your new space
Before you actually move into your new home, visit it to assess how much space you’ll have for furniture and storage. Get accurate measurements if you can as this will give you a better idea of how much of your belongings can be moved into the new property. Moving to a smaller space may require that you get rid of some items, while moving to a larger space may require that you shop for more furniture to fill the space.
Minimize your belongings
Whether you’re moving to a bigger or smaller home, it’s always a good idea to declutter and purge your possessions. Be ruthless when it comes to getting rid of items you don’t need or haven’t used in months or even years. Hold a garage sale, donate your furnishings to charity or give them away to family and friends who may actually have use for these items. Start on clean slate - leave all the clutter you don’t need behind. In a practical sense, moving fewer objects will also be easier and less costly overall.
Organize your packing
Pack like items in the same boxes and label the boxes by number on all sides. This will make it easier to unpack later on. Organize a list of the numbered boxes with their coordinating contents listed next to each number. This way you won’t have a hard time looking for items when you unpack everything. Organized packing may take some effort, but it will surely pay off when you unpack later on.
