Multi-purpose furniture can save you money and space.
In Metro Manila, space has become one of the most expensive commodities due to the rising urban population and growing metropolises, among other reasons. But with this challenge of making a home in spaces as small as 12 sqm comes the fun task of being resourceful and creative, in terms of decorating your nooks.
To help turn your house into a home, here are some space-saving tips to maximize your space with as little furniture as possible.
1. When purchasing furniture for a small space, always scale down. Big, bulky pieces will overwhelm and cramp up the space.
Choose flexible pieces that can be stored away easily
2. When choosing pieces for your home, opt for furniture that are multi-purpose. For example: buy bed frames that have hidden built-in drawers and shelves, and chairs that include extra storage. Easily de-clutter rooms and conveniently stow away toys, clothes, extra linens and such with these dual purpose pieces.
3. For the living room, instead of buying a large sofa set, choose more flexible pieces that can be easily moved around, put together, and stowed away. Move it from the living room to the dining room or even patio for dinner with guests. Foldable pieces are ideal for small homes.
4. To create an illusion of more space, hang mirrors opposite a window or other strategic places to reflect light into a room. This trick gives the illusion of more breathing room and greater space. Another tip is to use full-length mirrors to open up entrance ways.
