The front door is often the focal point on a home’s exterior. It’s functional, decorative, and in certain cases, it’s a statement about the home and its inhabitants. If you’re tired of your front door’s plain, boring look, turn to these five suggestions on how to spruce it up using simple, affordable means.
1. Repaint, re-varnish, or tint. A wooden front door that’s seen better times could use a lick or two of wood tint and/or varnish. Tint and varnish are fairly affordable staples at the hardware store, as is paint, should you wish to paint it over instead. The process, as well, is fairly simple. If you're repainting your door, choose a color that would stand out - tastefully - from the rest of the house for a bold look.
4. Add trim and molding. Door molding and door trim kits may be purchased from the hardware store. Take note of your front door’s measurements. Select a style of molding or trim that go well with the door and the exterior of your home.
5. Be resourceful. Use picture frames to stand in as molding on a plain front door. Paint frames the same color as the door, or another color that should go well with the door and make the frames look like actual molding.
