While artificial flowers are pretty additions to one’s home (they come in a variety of shapes, colors and sizes and can last forever), nothing creates the same romantic ambiance of fresh-cut flowers.
The pretty blooms and the subtle fragrances emitted instantly brighten up a room and make a home more inviting. While deemed a it impractical by some, others find it an absolute necessity to keep fresh flowers at home- even if it means replacing them every few days or so. Considering the vase life, price and beauty of the blooms, we have a gathered a list of the best fresh flowers to keep at home.
1. Roses – Make it feel like it’s Valentine’s Day everyday with these pretty buds. With a vase life of 7 to 10 days, roses are one of the most practical and long-lasting blooms around. When choosing roses, opt for those that have a tighter bud.
Orchids – Perfect for the tropical climate such as ours, orchids need very little tending. Coming in an array of beautiful colors, orchids can last between two to three weeks minimum. Simply change the water every day, or at least every other day, and remove any wilting leaves and flowers to ensure that the healthy buds last longer.
3. Lily – Lasting up to 14 days, the lily is much like the orchid. Made of a sturdier stem, lilies don’t get damaged as easily and can be kept in a vase or in a bowl of water as decoration. To extend its vase life, remove the pollen and remove any wilting petals to encourage re-blooming.
4. Carnations – One of the most budget friendly flowers out there in the market is the carnation. They come in many shades and can be found in abundance and are available almost year round. These blooms can last up to two to three weeks and for added fun, you can even customize its color. Do this by letting a white carnation sit in a vase with water that’s been mixed with a few drops of food coloring. Within a few days, the flower will absorb the water and you’ll see the tints appear on its petals
